Grow with us [excerpt]
With GOLDKORP, Schroder was able to assemble the most elaborate of the three recent installations. On walking up the steps to the gallery, the visitor was confronted with an unattended reception room; GOLDKORP GROW WITH US emblazoned in gold letters across a glass partition. A hallway leads off the reception, and following it the visitor finds, behind shelves of papers, a table covered in glass test tubes, burners and pots, and ceramic apples in the middle of being alchemised into gold. Another room, with decals depicting a view of glitzy office towers through the window, has a boardroom table, this time covered in the detritus of a celebration: empty Crown Lager bottles, a champagne fountain, cigarette butts and cigars, and picked-over nibbles. After this, you find a room completely subsumed by dirt. It covers the floor and is splattered across the walls and ceiling. A side door takes you back to the spotless reception room.
