Transgressions, Transmutations, and Trickery [excerpt]
Mark Schroder’s SILVERCITY created a business as a front for a scam as a front for an artwork. The immersive illusion presented is an over-stimulating cacophony of beachside start-up chic and a stale, hastily-abandoned con-office, circa-1989. Ceramic casts of various objects throughout the installation create slippage between real and created artefacts. A silver lined backroom hosts obscure attempts to fake the promised product, planted evidence of attempted transformation and trickery.
